Framing Merbein
The Merbein Centenary Committee is running a photographic competition this year as a part of their 100 year celebrations.
Would be photographers are encouraged to enter one of the seven categories. Competition organiser Rebecca Wells says “The aim of the competition is to give locals a chance to photograph Merbein and District. It will be a great opportunity for everyone to see Merbein through the community’s eyes in 2009. We’re really hoping that schools and individuals enter the competition. With today’s technology, there are so many ways to take a photograph, for examples with your mobile phone.”
Entries for the competition must be taken in 2009 and be taken in Merbein and District. Entrants are encouraged to get out and about in Merbein and snap the sights. “When you start to look around Merbein, there are so many great things to photograph.” Ms Wells says.
Ms Wells also says “We’re very lucky to have a judge coming up especially from Melbourne to judge the competition and the NAB has also generously come on board as a sponsor for the event.”
There are no entry fees for the competition and prizes will be presented to winning entries on Saturday 15th August, at the official opening of the centenary celebrations. Winning entries will also be on display as a part of the 10 day centenary celebration period: 14th to the 23rd of August 2009.
Entry forms can be submitted from the 22nd June to the 22nd July. Entry forms are available at Walders Real Estate and the Merbein Information Centre, both of which are located on Commercial Street, Merbein. Entries are also available at Ramsay's Camera House in 8th Street, Mildura or can be downloaded from the Merbein Centenary web site www.merbeincentenary.com.au For further information about the Merbein centenary celebrations, such as the Street Parade, Settlers Picnic and Settlers Bush Dance, also see the web site.
