This event was held at Kenny Park and had food stalls available. As well as traditional games/races etc to add to the fun and entertainment!
Families were encouraged to gather, perhaps invite the extended family for a "Family Reunion" in a relaxed setting.
Food stalls were available with Meringur Footy Club running a BBQ; the Italian community had beautiful Italian food; Lions & Rotary sold steak sandwichs and much more.
The first Settlers Picnic was held in 1911 as an opportunity for the settlers of the newly established irrigation area to get together. The Merbein District Historical Society’s Historian Editor, Bronwyn Zrna has compiled an excellent coverage of these picnics from 1911 to 1956.
