Hullo Everyone who knew me. Unfortunately I am unable to make the trip from the Sunshine Coast (Qld) to join in the celebrations and renewing of friendships. I left Merbein 1987 moving to Hervey Bay, there til 2004 when I came to S/Coast. Live in large retirement resort. My second husband died 10 years ago. I have no children and retain my own name. Class mates Marianne Lee, Joy McKenzie, Dianne Congress, Faye Griffiths, Peter Jenner, Tony Treadwell, John Arnold, Lindsay Cupper to name a few. Love to hear from Wendy Carmichael whom I lost track off and Lorraine Norman who moved to SA. Also fond memories of Peter, Neville, Eveyln Mitchell, Ian Keens, David Cross, Val &Bill Golding, Rhonda & Tony McKenzie. Ken Scobie our much loved Commercial teacher. The list goes on......loving reading familiar names on this. Congrats to a mighty effort of the committee for an unforgettable Merbein Centenary. Sadly both my cousins Ron & Brian Mckay have passed on. Both retired to Hervey Bay. Anyone wants to get in touch via email love to hear from you. Have a great time to those of you who can make it. Cheers, Vicki (with apologies to all I havent mentioned) |

The Merbein laboratory, was established in 1919 and has a history of successful research for Australian horticulture, from improving grape and citrus varieties through conventional breeding, management and biotechnology to successful collaborations with other organisations and post graduate training. To celebrate the 90 year history and achievements of the CSIRO Merbein Research Station, they will be opening their doors, to the general public and will have on display some of the achievements as part of the Merbein centenary celebrations. Date: August 18th - 20th Time: 2:00pm to 5:00pm Place: CSIRO cnr River Avenue and Sturt Highway, Merbein South We would like to make contact with the many current and former staff who have had an association with the laboratory to invite them back to the site. If you are still in contact with anyone who may be interested in visiting the site, please forward this invitation on to them. |

| Hi everyone. I subscribed to the mailing list last December and have rarely looked at the website since. Whilst attending a family birthday celebration in Melbourne my cousin (maiden name Lyn McKenzie) mentioned the existence of this Guest Book/Message Board and I eagerly looked it up that night. What a fabulous endeavour by the organisers and heartiest congratulations and thanks for the effort you are putting in.I lived in Merbein for 19 years and moved to Melbourne in 1968. My parents (Keith and Maggie) and I lived in Smith Street. I attended Merbein High from 1961-65 and worked in the CBC Bank (sadly no longer) from 1966-68. Dad passed away in 1973 and mum in 2002. I rarely return to Merbein these days but am looking forward to coming back for at least one day to see the procession (I was on a float organised by the cubs on the original one). Whilst not personally knowing everyone whose name appears in the Guest Book, I certainly remember most of the names. My fondest memories of Merbein are the old picture theatre; particularly the Friday Ranch Nights. Memories of film gods such as Randolph Scott, John Wayne, Audie Murphy, Gary Cooper, Alan Ladd etc. Also Saturday nights which always began with a serial which always ended in a cliff-hanger. Captain Video comes to mind. Lots of others in which the same wood-grained station wagon seemed to feature in each. Also the rousing cheer which would go up when the film inevitably broke down. Also the never ending succession of Elvis Presley movies:each one seemingly worse than the previous one. There was a real smorgasboard of film genre over time.Anyway great to feel a part of all this and hope to catch up with as many people as possible whilst I am in Merbein. Regards to everyone and feel free to contact me if you wish. |

Trouble is, every time I go in for a chat, the bastard gets me 3 parts cut on his favorite drop, Red Wine of course, as you all know. They are both, so much looking forward to the Centenary!!
