my ancles memories of Sam Brinsden

My uncle Jack West worked for Harold Brisdons father Sam one of his first jobs. He said when he arrived for work Sam would still be in bed and would say come on in Jack and light the fire. They got on very well. He had two cats named midnight and burreroo. My ancle was the grandfather of Marion Kirk.

Hi from Mariane Kirke (nee WEST). Seeing familiar names, Kay Stirrat, Lynette McKenzie, Dianne Chivers on the notice board sent me scurrying to find an old school photo from 1961 that has survived (more or less) the ravages of time.On the back my dad has written all our 44 names- too many to mention here. Would love to hear from anyone who remembers me.

Yes Billy had some relatives. I know one well - a nephew. Met him in the 80's in Ferntree Gully, and still in touch with him and his family. In fact they have retired and now live in Mildura! Tell you all about it next week Lyn. Looking forward to the week. Great work Merbeinites! Kay.

Thank you Diane for bringing back memories of Billy Ling. As a kid I always wondered about this funny old Chinese man who took our shoes and returned them to last a little longer....I could never understand how he lived in that shop with all that mess and I guess I never really knew if he had any friends or family. My questions will always remain inanswered but he was certainly very much a part of Merbein when I was gorwing up in the 50's and 60's.Lyn Hocking

We will be in Merbein for the street parade and the Saturday and Sunday. We will be taking Peter's mum Hilda to see the parade and displays. Graham and Keith Brinsden will be driving vehicles in the parade and Judy Brinsden will also be there. We would love to catch up with classmates and others we knew back then.

With so many activities going on, Saturday 22nd looks to be the best day to catch up with old school mates as most schools are open on that day..
Schools are open for tours during the Centenary Celebrations as follows;-
Our Lady of Sacred Heart Monday-Thursday during school time
Saturday 22nd 11-12noon
Merbein Primary;- Tuesday 18th 12noon-3.30pm
Saturday 22nd 11-12.30pm
Merbein West;- Monday-Thursday 9am-3.15pm
Saturday 22nd 11-12.30pm
The Lake; Thursday 20th August 9am - 11.00am
Merbein South - ring 50 25 6277 to arrange a visit
and Merbein Secondary College Saturday 22nd August 11am-1.30pm.

Suggest we rock up to Merbein Primary 11am to say midday and then head straight up to Merbein Secondary College until at least 1.30pm when we can decide whether or not we want a glass of wine and a bite to eat.

This chap was at the High School , and set up the first library at the school. If anyone has kept contact with his daughter Margery, as per the previous message from Joy Milne, could you email the info to me or reply here? Thanks,Joy
