The Rogers' clan from the pumping station are very disappointed to have missed this momentous occasion and the chance to catch up with old friends and tour their old stomping grounds esp. the pumping station! Susan, Anne, Kate and Robert (sadly Butch is no longer with us).

Congratulations to the hard working Merbein Centenary Committee on being awarded the "Community Event of The Year" by the Mildura Rural City Council, announced at the Australia Day Breakfast. Worthy winners amongst a quality field.
Also, one of the committee, Ray Barraclough, was awarded Citizen of the year!
Tops off a great celebratory year for our little old town of MERBEIN!
Kevin McCarthy.

Congratulations, Merbein, you are missed

I am sorry I missed the big event. Merbein holds some great memories for me and my brother, Bob Impey, has returned to Merbein and I visit home every so often to see my Mom amd Bob. It was a wonderful experience to see some of the names of my childhood in the email messages. I am now living in Colorado at the foot of the Rocky Mountains, just north of Denver.

If anyone who knows me would like to catch up I would be stoked to hear from you - it has been so long since I have had any contact with the folks of my childhood.

Have a great new year, Merbein, you will always be home to me.

Regards, Daryl Impey

I lived in Smith Street between 1970 and 1976 (practically all my primary school days).

Memories? Kenny Park, watching Tommy Bland kicking bags of goals each week. He was my hero as a young lad and I was always going to get his autograph during school holidays when he delivered the mail but was too shy!!

The swimming pool...the children's one used to have pictures of disney characters on the bottom I think...I may have remembered that incorrectly, it has been a long time!!

The school as it was before it was as it is now. The bell tower in particular I remember. And the way that there would be a big puddle form outside the library every time it rained.

I remember Mr. Nichols and Mr. Neville and how they used to give boys the strap (I never got it amazingly enough). I remember going to the hospital to see Mr. Nichols when he was in there shortly before he died at the end of 1975 or early 1975 I think.

I remember when the primary school had grape vines. They were taken out and the place where they were was turned into a soccer field.

I'll finish off otherwise I'll rave on for hours but in case they are reading I'd just like to send a quick hello to Shane, Elizabeth and Yvette Noonan (and Mr. and Mrs. Noonan), Trevor "shorty" Griffiths and Ken Henderson.

It only seems like yesterday sometimes that I left Merbein. Such happy memories of a fabulous town.
